Content creator Gertrude Awino alias Miss Trudy tied the knot with his Ghanian boyfriend Wode Maya at a private wedding held in Western Kenya.
Wode made the announcement on his YouTube channel, “My thousandth video, I wanted it to be special. I wanted it to be a memorable video. If my kids in future asked me, ‘what’s your thousandth video?’ I would tell them it’s the one I married your mother.“
The couple chose September 10th to mark the day Miss Trudy lost her mom, “Dad was so emotional. I have never seen my dad like that. It was like he was heartbroken… he made me cry. It was an emotional moment because he is my only parent,” she said.
The two have been dating for close to four years now, both saying people didn’t believe they would make it this far, “They were giving us six months, saying mtaachana tu now the six months have turned into forever.” On how much the wedding cost, “I only spent on buying the two tickets for my family and I think we spent Sh120,000 ($1000) on this wedding.” Miss Trudy added that people really came through for them, “God just sent people our way to make everything happen.”
Maya described their marriage as one that would bring Africa together, “I believe this union will unite the whole continent.” Miss Trudy disclosed that she didn’t know they would end up together, “I am so happy to be married to the love of my life. I didn’t know we would end up like this but I thank God we have. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. You make me happy everyday,” she said. The couple received a two-bedroom and a one bedroom apartment from a real-estate owner as their wedding gift.
