My name is Marvella M. Scott. I am studying at the Christian Leaders Institute to be a licensed ordained wedding officiant (Learn more about free Bible and ministry classes online, Click Here).
My Early Years: Blessings and Challenges
I grew up in Newark, New Jersey. I am the third child of four children. We blessedly grew up in a loving Christian home. During our childhood, we also attended private/parochial schools. At the age of twelve, I attended an evening church service with my father. At the end of the service, the minister made the altar call. To my father’s surprise, I jumped out of my seat and raced to the altar! That day, I gave my heart to Jesus Christ, and it was the best day of my life!
I am grateful to my parents for introducing me to Jesus at a young age. Attending Sunday School was mandatory in our home. Sunday school was where I first made my connection to Jesus. At five years old, I realized that there was something different about this man called Jesus. I heard the song “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” That moved me, and I desired to hear more about Him.
When I was twelve years old, I noticed that I was different from my peers. They picked on me a lot, and because of that, I felt alone. Those days were my “wilderness” journey. I gave my life to Jesus Christ out of desperation, hurt, loneliness, and fear. I was chasing something and needed Jesus Christ and His love.
It Only Takes a Spark
In that same year, a man from outside of our community started a Wednesday evening Bible study for neighborhood children. At Bible study, the pastor handed out “Good News Bibles” to everyone. He taught us many songs. The song that stuck with me throughout my Christian journey is titled: “It ONLY TAKES A SPARK.”The Lyrics in the first verse are as follows; “It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around will warm up in its glowing. That’s how it is with God’s love, once you’ve experienced it. You spread His love to everyone: you want to pass it on.”
When I sang that song something rose up within me. I knew God was calling me to a higher place in Him. One day, I went to the Pastor and told him that God was calling me. I asked God if I could be that spark for Him on earth. I desired to tell the good news of my risen Savior. How beautiful it would be to pass on His love to other children!
My Family and Ministry Service
I’ve participated in organizing youth ministry groups. I am a member of a local church in Virginia, where I’ve resided for over twenty-seven years. During those years, I coordinated Women’s Leadership Conferences, led Bible study lessons, and served as the President of the pastor’s aide ministry. I also organized outreach programs and served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for church events. In 2018, I relocated to Texas. Due to pandemic restrictions, I’ve only been able to remain active in ministry through social media and zoom.
I am a mother of one daughter and a godmother of one son. I raised my godson from the age of sixteen after his mother died when he was fifteen years old. Married for twenty-three years, my husband went to be with the Lord in October 2007. The best way to show God’s love is through giving. I haven’t always been able to give monetarily, but that doesn’t stop me from giving from my heart. God has blessed me to share my home with many children. He has also blessed me to care for the sick and to provide food and shelter for those in need.
Study at CLI
I am excited about this opportunity through the Christian Leaders Institutes (CLI) program. It is not by accident that I found CLI while searching for ministry programs. My steps are ordered by the Lord. God has opened many doors along my faith walk. Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) is by far one of His greatest blessings!
God desires to bless people and sends leaders along the way, such as Pastor Henry Reyenga. Then, we will know that blessings truly come from God. In this world, free education is impossible to obtain. What CLI is offering is supernatural! It is clear that God is the “Blesser,” and I am blessed to be the recipient of such a remarkable blessing!
Becoming a Licensed Ordained Wedding Officiant
In reading Numbers 6:27, God promises a blessing as He commands Moses and Aaron to be a blessing to the children of Israel. Pastor Reyenga and the Christian Leaders family are blessed for carrying out such a notable order from the Lord. Their dedication to raising up many Christian leaders has caused exponential growth for the Kingdom of God all around the world.
I am excited about obtaining my ministry license and becoming a licensed ordained wedding officiant. “When God saith, ‘I will,’ all the devils in hell cannot turn aside the blessing, and all the ages of eternity cannot change the King’s word” (Charles Spurgeon).
God said, “I will bless them.” So I sincerely thank the Christian Leaders Family!
