Anna Kara Wedding Dress // Fitzrovia Chapel Wedding Ceremony

Alex and I met at law school in Chancery Lane in 2015. We were in classes together and became pretty inseparable (at first as friends) on the course and in life more generally. We would go out ostensibly to ‘study’ and end up, a few drinks later, dancing until the early hours.

I decided to propose to Alex during a celebratory meal at the City Social in 2020. We had discussed marriage and knew we both wanted to take that step and I thought Alex would appreciate me taking the initiative – and the swiss watch I gave him!

We were engaged for two years before we got married. Partly because of covid-19, but also because we wanted time to enjoy the engagement and to plan the wedding ourselves.

The Inspiration

I would say our inspiration came mainly from the way we wanted our guests to feel on the day. We wanted to be relaxed and for the day to be simple, laid-back but sophisticated. Alex is positively allergic to anything fussy or pretentious and so we had many conversations about whether elements of the day felt like ‘us’ and cut things down to what we felt were the best bits of other celebrations we had been to.

We chose a blue palate for our colour scheme as my engagement ring has blue sapphires and we love Japanese indigo. Alex is red/green colour blind so I wanted to make sure we chose something that looked great for him as well as everyone else.

I’m a Londoner and grew up round the corner from our reception venue. We also first met in London and had our first place together in NW.

Our words of wisdom would be try not to stress about the day and enjoy planning it together – if there’s something you’re not that bothered about or feels forced, whether it’s table plans or fancy cars, then don’t worry about cutting it from the day. Your guests are there for you and will have a brilliant time whatever you decide!
