Weddings under the blue whale are just one of the new remarkable event spaces available in Perth.
As the WA Museum Boola Bardip prepares to open in November, we got the first look at the venues that will be available to book for events from January at the $400 million state-of-the-art site.
WA Museum chief executive Alec Coles heralded the museum’s setting as a drawcard for events, with six spaces to choose from, including a showstopper — Otto, the blue whale skeleton who takes pride of place in the century-old Hackett Hall.
“Where else in Western Australia can you have your wedding under the skeleton of a whale in a wonderful heritage building?” Coles said.
The bar is set to be raised like never before and Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman said the spaces were the perfect backdrop.
“The WA Museum Boola Bardip is the hottest ticket in Perth for functions and events,” Templeman said.
“There is no other venue like this in WA.”
Family-owned East Perth business Heyder & Shears is in charge of the menus, which will be influenced by WA’s renowned local produce. Under the guidance of executive director Athan Mirmikidis and executive chef Stephen Watson — who started out in some of Perth’s best restaurants such as Balthazar and Duende — Heyder & Shears will cater to functions of any size and style. “The inspiration for the menu will come from the museum itself plus the local area,” Mirmikidis said.
The museum opens on November 21 with a nine-day celebration.
